The exhibitions “The 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Latvia” and “Belarus Today”

On April 10, 2017 the opening of the photo exhibitions “The 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Latvia” and “Belarus Today” was held in the National Library of Latvia.

The anniversary exposition arranged by the Embassy of Belarus in association with the Belarusian News Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia presents the photographic materials on the most important and remarkable events in Belarusian-Latvian cooperation in political, trade and economic, scientific and technical, humanitarian and other spheres, as well as the originals of the most significant bilateral agreements.

The photo exhibition of the Belarusian News Agency “Belarus Today” is devoted to the modern life of the country and its achievements in different spheres.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Oleg Kravchenko, and the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Andrejs Pildegovičs, the Ambassador of Belarus to Latvia Marina Dolgopolova, the Director General of the Belarusian Telegraph Agency Dmitry Zhuk, the Director of the National Library of Latvia Andris Vilks opened the exhibitions.

The deputy director of the National Library of Belarus Aleksandr Susha has donated the multi-volume facsimile edition of the “Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna” to the National Library of Latvia. This edition is the result of international scientific and publishing project, devoted to the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing to be marked in 2017, which is included in the calendar of UNESCO memorable dates.

The National Library of Latvia granted the visitors a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the original of the third edition of the Statute of the Great Duchy of Lithuania of 1588, kept in its funds.

The Deputy Speaker of the Saeima Gundars Daudze, the Minister of Agriculture Jānis Dūklavs, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development Kaspars Gerhards, the President of the Latvian Academy of Sciences Ojārs Spārītis, the Saeima members, the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other state institutions, the Belarusian diaspora, the representatives from business, science and culture of Latvia participated in the event.

The photo exhibitions will be on public display in the National Liibrary of Latvia till April 28, 2017.
